About TTPP.
Changing the Way Transgender and Nonbinary Individuals Access Community Services
The Project
Thanks to the Emergency Solutions Grant-Cares Act within Riverside county, The TransPower Project will be launched as pilot program within Queer Works, a non-profit providing mental health treatment to the LGBTQ+ community. The objective of The TransPower Project is to help eliminate increased rates of homelessness and unstable housing in the transgender and nonbinary community. We aim to meet our objective by providing street and clinical outreach in form of triage services and connections to local resources around housing, mental health, and employment. The TransPower Project will have an office space in the Palm Springs area, which will serve as the base camp for dispatch and walk in services. The TransPower Project will dispatch clinicians and interns in field setting to meet with individuals in other parts of Riverside County who may not have the ability to come to an office. As TTTP was founded and is run as a family operated business, we strive to provide the same safety and acceptance that echoes one of a supportive family environment. |
Our Goal
Our goal will be to connect clients to immediate needed triage services, such as mental health stabilization, job opportunities and temporary housing. The TransPower Project will then connect clients to local organizations that can continue their ongoing care. The TransPower Project will instill self-advocacy techniques and build long-term resiliency in clients so that their needs will be continually met.
We aim to provide triage services to 540 transgender and nonbinary individuals between August of 2021 and August of 2022. Program Structure
Teams will be sent out between the hours of 10am – 3pm, 5pm – 10pm, 12am – 5am. Teams will work in field Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Holidays included. Wednesday and Sundays will be covered on an as-need basis. We will also have drop in hours at our rented location at DAP Health in Palm Springs. |
The Importance
Based on various data, approximately 27,000 transgender and non-binary individuals live in Riverside County, with a large percentage identifying as homeless or living in unstable housing. It is estimated that there are at least 5,000 homeless transgender and nonbinary individuals just in the Palm Springs and Palm Desert areas.
Data and anecdotal information show that while there are opportunities for the transgender and nonbinary community to access resources around housing and employment, continual utilization of resources diminish because of a lack of continuity of care between service providers. In addition, lack of mental health care leads to depression, anxiety and learned helplessness which affects the inability to take care of hierarchical individual needs. As a transgender lead program, The TransPower Project aims to help eliminate that which is mentioned above by providing triage care, and thus instilling coping skills and feelings of resilience for the community.

PROGRAM STATISTICS
Since our launch on July 1st, 2021, we have been able to enroll almost 150 individuals in free weekly therapy. In addition, during our street outreach and outreach events, we have connected with almost 400 individuals, giving them information around how to access. important health, housing and social services. As most of our data is client confidential, below are exciting statistics around TTPP and our service hours:
